Re: A Quadrature Power-Summed Compressor Sidechain For "The Uno Compressor"
A comparison of conventional "True Power Summing" to "Quadrature Power Summing" with a variable timing capacitor. The test is 10 cycles of 50 Hz with about 10 dB of compression. The first sequence is conventional True Power Summing (TPS) with the decay rate swept from 60 dB/s to...

Re: A Quadrature Power-Summed Compressor Sidechain For "The Uno Compressor"
I remember that drawing. The cap multiplier I'm using is a single op amp inverting stage Av = 0 to -9 connected to the normally-grounded end of the timing cap. At a gain of 0 the timing cap's value is 2.2µF making the total range 10:1 to synthesize a 22 µF. I just finished listening to a walking bas...

Re: A Quadrature Power-Summed Compressor Sidechain For "The Uno Compressor"
On pure sustained tones at 100 Hz I can hear various degrees of distortion at almost every setting of the capacitance multiplier when QPS is switched out and don't hear any change in timbre at any setting when QPS is in. HD-3 is near the same residual level as the VCA's HD-2 with QPS. At 50 Hz HD-3 ...

Re: A Quadrature Power-Summed Compressor Sidechain For "The Uno Compressor"
I just started doing listening tests late yesterday and so far I really like the variable capacitance multiplier. I need to put on the 'phones and do some critical listening but before I do I wanted to verify, with tone, the benefits of Quadrature Power Summing. A quick FFT with a 100 Hz tone shows ...

Re: A Quadrature Power-Summed Compressor Sidechain For "The Uno Compressor"
Doug what does NLC bring to the table for you that you don't get with RMS? Less distortion on low frequencies? I did some digging to find out how dBx and THAT settled on the typical 10 µF, 7.5 µA, 35 ms log-domain tau, 120 dB/s decay rate used in almost every app note and schematic since the beginni...

Thank you for joining us.
Are you looking for someone to design this for you?
Motor drive is not something we typically discuss here.

Re: Spring Reverb Preemphasis
Ahhh, so the boing is not a problem of the spring being a bad delay line, just the opposite---it's still too "good" of a delay line, given that there are only 2-3 of them. That makes so much more sense. It's not that spring reverb goes boing because springs go boing, it's that springs go ...

Re: A Quadrature Power-Summed Compressor Sidechain For "The Uno Compressor"
I'll add that over time I find I'm using non-linear mode the most with Pico's in pop music, acoustic Americana, etc. I rarely ever use adjustable attack/release, it's NL or RMS. Never the peak mode. I think the waveulator is a better approach for transients. I agree. Using an "RMS" compre...

Thanks for joining us 555x555. You might want to read through this thread: https://www.proaudiodesignforum.com/forum/php/viewtopic.php?t=213 Preemphasis with spring reverbs is often used to emulate constant-current drive to maintain an equal driving current vs. frequency into the highly-inductive lo...

Re: 9 Volt Battery End of Life Voltage
Thread from the past. I'll add to the dataset that 7.6V is the end-of-life voltage for a Zircon water leak detector. It reached end of life around 12:30 AM this morning and began beeping. I have about eight in the house - two in the kitchen. This one was behind a snap-on kick panel underneath the si...
